Since 2016 I have been in full time employment with a Publisher and Events organiser based in Coventry, UK. My day-to-day role is Multimedia Manager, meaning I head up our web development team. We manage over 50 websites spanning a variety of industries from Datacentres & IT to Semiconductors and Solar. We also have various client websites and internal systems to maintain and update.
My interest in web development and photography started at a very young age. I have always been fascinated with digital media and have produced websites since age 13.
My first website was built using Microsoft Frontpage and was a simple game sharing site. Users could upload .swf games and share them with other visitors. It was an awfully simple website, but this is what started my journey in website development.
Around age 16 I discovered SecondLife, which is an online virtual world where people from all over the globe can interact, share ideas and create environments to explore using their ‘avatar’. I began to teach myself how to create 3D models, starting with a simple cushion, to eventually designing, modelling and texturing complete buildings using Blender and Photoshop.
I began to sell my 3D creations on the SecondLife Marketplace, where other users pay real money for your 3D models. In total I earnt over £4000 during my time at college. During this time I also taught myself the LSL Scripting language, which allows you to add interaction to your models.
My interest in programming and web development was growing, and I started to learn PHP and the Laravel framework from scratch. I managed to get a few small clients from local businesses and built up a portfolio of my work.
In 2023 I continue to develop applications and websites and experiment with code. Most recently I’ve been helping to reverse-engineer data from vehicles to help an auto-electronic specialist enable features on his customer’s vehicles. I’ve developed a small application which decodes configuration files. All very complicated, I’m sure I’ll write a post about it someday.
